Ummm..go if you are really starving and don't have any other options. Food is good although surroundings are questionable and no, it's not just one time...it was like that last (and only other) time I visited.
Thanks for responding to my message, that means a lot. Boxes, dust, dead bugs, mold in restrooms really detracted. 20 minutes of cleaning and throwing out or recycling (regularly)could make a huge difference.
I'll retry attaching a photo again.

Was camping nearby wanted to get some food and drinks first night. This place was fantastic, we had Jenna as a server and she was excellent. But by far the star of the show was the Fettuccine Alfredo, this dish was THE BEST fettuccine I’ve ever had. 5stars

It's the best neighborhood country gathering place. Service is great and friendly. Food exceeds expectations.

The food is absolutely phenomenal. This restaurant really speaks to the heart of Madras Oregonians and anyone coming to visit. We had the fish and chips dinner and it was the best I have had. I would rate the prime steak to be 4.6 or 4.7 out 5. It wasn’t mediocre but it also wasn’t the absolute best steak I have had but it also carried its own brand so the star ranking still stands high. The fries are extremely good and the garlic bread is made with the restaurants unique preparation. I’m not sure if the owners and employees realize they have a brand to their food but they do and it definitely will drive a lot business in the future to come. Please be kind and patient to the servers as they do get busy. 5 star review.

The Desert Inn Restaurant & Tavern is a quintessential local dive that wasn't busy when we stopped by, but seems ready for a party at a moment's notice. It has shuffleboard, a long bar, cozy indoor seating, a variety of indoor tables, and a great hangout for outdoor dining that has a covered area as well as a unique Southwest themed corner. The staff were low key, casual, and friendly. The locals didn't bat an eye at our crew of six coming into the local haunt. Food was a little spendy but was served quick and everyone enjoyed their food. It's also across the street from a dog park, so it makes a great little detour off of a Hwy 97 road trip.
Fry sauce was simple but good, mayo and ketchup with little else added. Excellent fries, battered, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
Onion rings were quality. Great tasting batter and a mild onion make these rings a great entry onion ring for kids. Okay tater tots.
I had the Desert Inn Deluxe burger with Onion Rings. A bacon cheeseburger loaded up with your classic veggies. A solid burger that any burger lover would be happy with. Put together well with decent ingredients and just a hint of seasoning from the flat top grill.
My wife really enjoyed her Bleu Cheese Bacon burger, especially the crispy onions. My stepsons food disappeared in mere moments (the best review you'll get from teenagers). My two youngest shared the hamburger sliders and thoroughly enjoyed them, with Theo telling the waitress "thank you for the burger!" three times.
All in all, this was a great little stop and another fun entry in #theGreatOregonBurgerBucketList!
